Oh yes, the nights are drawing in, the big coat has been dug out from the back of the cupboard and the leaves have become golden and crunchy…Autumn is almost upon us!
As the seasons change, the way in which we approach our skincare routines does too. Here are 5 (or maybe 6!), little tips to help you get the best from your complexion at this gorgeous time of year.
#1: This is a great season to REALLY embrace your Acids and Retinols. You’re not having to escape the sunshine now making them much safer to use and increasing the benefits. Acids and Retinols help to exfoliate providing a year-round glow and keep your complexion challenged in a kind, non-aggressive manner. If you can afford to use both, even better!
#2: Change up the time of your skincare routine. As it gets darker earlier and the nights get cosier, don’t wait until right before bedtime to do your skincare routine. Do it as soon as you get home so that your complexion is fully cleansed, nourished and has extra time to soak up all the goodness.
#3: Simple swaps. We all know I am the biggest fan of a Face Mask! Think about putting the clay based, purifying masks away for a little while and bring in the hydrating, moisturising ones. You’ll need all the Hyaluronic help you can get. The same goes for cleansing too. No drying, foaming cleansers (and certainly not wipes!) in Autumn. You want gels, creams, oils and milks.
#4: Boost your skin internally. I personally find taking my Omegas and Vitamin D make a huge difference to the skin at this time of year. Vitamin D may also help to keep you happy during the lack of sunshine!
#5: If you’re a shower person, please be really careful with the temperature. Your skin will not thank you for the boiling hot water as you’re trying to warm up. Keep it slightly cooler to prevent irritation and broken capillaries. Skin specialists are often divided on whether to cleanse your face in the shower…I’m all for it as a time saver, providing you abide by the above advice.
I can’t help myself; I’ve got one more!
Secret #6: Layers! Layering your skincare will save your complexion in the Autumn/Winter. If you’re a client, you’ll obviously have your own bespoke skincare plan which includes all this info. If not, please don’t be tempted to cleanse your skin and then apply a huge amount of heavy moisturiser, in the hope it’ll save your face….it won’t! Apply thin layers of serums, moisturisers and then oils. This way you’ll get the most efficient and effective results and each product is able to work on the individual layers of your skin. Remember, treat your skincare like your wardrobe!
Don't forget, I'm here if you have any questions or need some assistance with your skin, no matter how big or small!
