Well this is a slightly self‐indulgent blog post, isn’t it?! There is a reason behind it. As I was growing up I always believed that 27 was the year you became an official grownup. I don’t know how or why I’d drawn this conclusion, I just had.
I naively presumed by 27 I’d have everything figured out, but the older I get the more I realise that life is one constant learning curve…. and that’s actually blooming brilliant! My original ‘life plan’ may be a tad behind schedule (I now realise my desire to be married with 4 children and live in my Cheshire country pad by this point is a tad unrealistic ), but my little life is a million times better than I ever could have dreamt of.
The past 12 months have forced me to learn quickly, evacuate my comfort zone and discover things about myself I never knew existed. So rather than feel the usual birthday dread, I am fully embracing it from here on out. Getting older is a true privilege and I cannot wait to see what the next 12 months have in store.
1. In a world where you can be anything, be kind. You’ll never go too far wrong.
2. Your Mum will give you two pieces of advice in you late teenage years. 1) When a special person leaves your life, a new one tends to walk in. 2) When you find the right man, you’ll know about it…..She was right!
3. The conversations you have in your head are powerful. Say good things only.
4. Don’t panic when you find your first 3 grey hairs. As Will told you ‘they’re a sign that we’re growing older together’.
5. Grandparents are one of life’s true joys. Listen, laugh and learn from them. You’ll miss them forever.
6. You definitely talk too much but try not to worry about it. It might actually be one of your biggest assets!
7. Don’t be afraid to follow your own path. There will always be pressure to conform, but you can choose not to listen.
8. Overthinking is not good. Do not replay conversations or wish you could make people see things from your point of view. Respect they’re entitled to their opinion and move on.
9. Siblings are built in best friends, you hit the jackpot with yours.
10. If all else fails, run the bath!
11. Clear skin is always achievable, even in the midst of an acne breakout. You’ll learn how to handle it and then teach others.
12. Listen to your Dad, do not mix your drinks!!
13. Your vibe attracts your tribe. I’m not cool enough to say that aloud but that’s exactly what I mean.
14. Perfectionism is not a personality flaw if utilised correctly.
15. Do not cut your own hair! There are trained professionals for a reason!
16. Black will remain your favourite colour from the age of 3. You won’t wear it because you think it’s slimming or practical, you just love it. That’s ok.
17. Keep dreaming, it’s working!
18. People are amazing and the hands‐on aspect of your work will always be your favourite. Listen and learn, these women are exceptionally brilliant.
19. It’s ok to change your mind. You haven’t made a mistake ‐ if you don’t try then you’ll never know.
20. If you could pick your in‐laws, you’d pick yours every single time.
21. Everything in moderation – it’s that simple.
22. There’s no passport to success. There isn’t a hidden secret. Work hard, wholeheartedly believe and dedicate yourself.
23. Travelling light is a life skill – you still haven’t mastered it!
24. Laughing at yourself is also a life skill – that one you can do.
25. Decide you want it more than you are afraid of it.
26. The cliché is true. It’s all about the journey and not just the destination. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
27. Marry Will. He’s the best thing that ever walked into your life and together you can live the life you dream of.
